News from Mrs. Dalton's Third Grade Class

Tigger Terrace

Adventureland, NH 03060

March 2010

Everyone here at Tigger Terrace is looking forward to warm spring days. We also will be continuing our learning adventures.

Religion

The students are discovering that the church is called Catholic because it is open to all.  They will also come to understand that Jesus suffered, died, and rose from the dead for the whole human family, and that we are called to spread this Good News to all.

Reading

We have just finished reading Stone Fox, a legend about a national dogsled race.  As a culminating activity to the book, both third grade classes will meet a musher with her sled dogs and examine the handmade dogsled that she uses when she races.  In addition, Mrs. Litch, our computer teacher, will have both classes follow the progress of the dogsled racers in the Alaskan Iditarod during their computer classes.

English

We will soon be studying adverbs at Tigger Terrace, so everyone knows that any word that describes how Tigger bounces is an adverb!  Additionally, we are learning how to use adverbs to enhance our writing.

Science

The class is now being taught how forecasters predict the weather.  By the end of the unit, they will be able to read a weather map and will become familiar with many of the weather tools that meteorologists use to forecast the weather. They also we will be visited by Kevin Skarupa, a local meteorologist, who will help reinforce this material.

Math

We are currently working on our second chapter of multiplication. When we are done, will be focusing on gaining speed with our multiplication facts.  In addition, we will learn how to divide and begin memorizing our division facts.

Social Studies

At present, the students have a clear understanding about local government, so we will be learning how our national government is run.  During these studies, we will be singing “The Three Levels of Government” to help us remember the name and purpose of each branch.

As we make our way through the last days of Lent, we are focused on preparing for Easter.  Furthermore, we will be participating in the Young Inventors Project.  Now that should keep us hopping!

Well, it’s ta-ta for now.  Hope you enjoyed reading our news.
