First Grade Happenings from

Here's a very short
description of what we're doing in computer class just now. I
update this monthly, so check back often!
May / June
 At the end of the year, we will be playing several online games including I Spy, Professor Garfield, and money games.
April
During April, they will be playing Trudy's Time and Place House, and started playing Reader Rabbit, a phonics based game which takes them on an adventure for a few weeks.
March
They have continued to enjoy Thinkin' Science. They will also be working on 2 spring projects: one about how plants grow, and the other on Easter.
February
They have been an outstanding class this year, and will celebrate Catholic schools week with "free choice" of any games that they have learned this year! Later in the month they will be creating Valentines and learning Thinkin' Science.
January
They will finish up Type to Learn, Jr., and begin using Carnival Countdown.
December
This month they practiced with Type to Learn, Jr., which helps to introduce them to the location of the keys on a keyboard. They also worked on a Thanksgiving picture, created a Christmas card, and completed a worksheet naming the different parts of a computer.
November
First
graders will begin using Zoo Zillions, another math oriented educational game. For Veterans Day activities, we will be going to Ben's Guide and talking about some of the symbols of the United States.
October
First
graders are now using Millie's Math House, a great game teaching basic
math concepts. They will also be using Kid Pix to practice writing
and drawing some of their "word wall" words, and to create a Halloween
picture. When they finish their drawings, they go to the
Sillybooks web site and read stories.
September
They
started the year by playing
JumpStart Phonics, a game designed to help them with basic phonics.
They especially like the Fire station game, and worked hard on completing
all the games to earn a certificate.
