Here's a very short
description of what we're doing in computer class just now. I
update this monthly, so check back often!
May / June
 They will be learning about spreadsheets, and will be entering their individual food guidelines into a spreadsheet. We'll be reviewing how to correctly use a spell checker, and end the year by playing a special computer version of Hillsboro Squares.
April
We reviewed all the material they have learned so far this year, in preparation for their quiz. We also discussed the Food Pyramid and healthy eating habits, and they looked up their guidelines.
March
Now that they have a dictionary of 15 computer vocabulary words, they will be learning several formatting techniques; including how to make a title page for reports. We end class with 15 minutes of keyboarding.
February
During February, we will be researching Olympic athletes. They will also be typing new vocabulary words in their dictionaries, and they continue to do keyboarding during every class.
January
They are getting some practice typing as they add new vocabulary words to their computer dictionary every month. After they finish their Career presentations, they will be researching an Olympic athlete to root for!
December
Fourth graders will be using PowerPoint this month, creating a presentation about a job or career that they might like to have, and describing how computers can be useful in that job.
November
Fourth graders continue to learn correct keyboarding techniques, and practice keyboarding during part of computer class. They have also completed a word processing worksheet, learning about the different icons on the toolbar.
October
We
will be discussing safe research techniques, and will be looking at different web sites to finish a "Famous Rocks" webquest. We will also start a Computer Terminology Dictionary,
which will be used until they graduate! This gives them practice
using their developing keyboarding skill in a practical manner.
September
I will also
introduce JumpStart Typing, which they will be using throughout the year
for keyboarding practice. We will be talking about Internet
Safety, using the NetSmartz web site, and they will be completing a
worksheet on this topic. |
