Second Grade Happenings from the Computer Room

Here's a very short description of what we're doing in computer class just now.  I update this monthly, so check back often!

May / June

*  At the end of the year, they will be playing Reader Rabbit, as well as playing some online games that teach about money.

April

*  During April, they will be playing Thinkin' Science, an educational game that reinforces basic observation skills,and challenges the students to observe basic science principles. They will also do an Earth Day poster and a special Easter drawing.

March

* Second graders will be introduced to word processing this month. Their first project will be formatting a St. Patrick's day poem.

February

* They have been an outstanding class this year, and will celebrate Catholic schools week with "free choice" of any games that they have learned this year! Later in the month they will be creating Valentines and finishing up their story by recording their own voices reading their story.

January

*  Language Arts is the theme for 2nd and 3rd graders this month. Second graders will use the letter generator to write a thank you letter for a special Christmas gift. At the end of the month, they will be writing an interactive story using Stanley Stickers.

December

*  Second graders have been doing some simple typing practice using MS Word. They have typed in a Thanksgiving "Thankful" card, created dinosaur trading cards, and a St. Nicholas card.

November

*  Second graders will be learning about endangered species, and dinosaurs in their homerooms. In computer class we will be looking up a dinosaur on the Internet and creating dinosaur trading cards

.October

*  Second graders are busy creating an ABC book.  They are learning more features about Kid Pix, and will be taking this book home at the end of the month.  They are using Zoo Zillions, a great math game, and especially like playing the Jungle Game. 

September

*  They started the year by using Type to Learn and reviewing where the letters are on the keyboard, how to make capital letters, etc.  They created a drawing for Funny Friday using Kid Pix.
